Age does not determine intelligence

I'm currently at Kenzie's sister's house. I finally got to meet her niece. She's so cute! I don't think she likes me much but Kenzie says that she is still undecided about her so I'm guessing it takes some time. Her sister's house is beautiful. It's open and inviting. And nothing like houses you usually see in Vegas. I ended up falling asleep on the couch for a little bit and when I woke up I felt like I was in a different place. The back door was open and I felt that if I walked out I would find a huge backyard that would lead into a forest. I still don't feel like I'm in Vegas the longer I'm here and it makes me realize that even though I love Vegas and all my benefits from living here (like being able to get chapstick at two in the morning) I want out. I want to see and experience something new.

I got to see my nephew today. My best friend (Ali) brought him over to my apartment. I can't believe how big he is. I remember when he was born and barely fit into my arms. He's almost walking now. Hopefully he'll be walking by the time my wedding rolls around. He's the ring bearer. We ordered pizza, sat in my living room and talked. It was nice to just hang out with somebody without having to run out and get errands done.

After Ali and my nephew left, Kenzie's dad picked me up and brought me over here to the sister's house. One of the sister's friends from work came over to hang out and after she got introduced to everybody, Kenzie's sister told her I was getting married.

What happened next was something I used to fear would happen but after telling everybody and not get this reaction I forgot about it.

Right away she asked how old I was. After I told her 20 she just stared at me. For some reason I felt like I had to give an explaination so I added that he was in the military. "Oh! That explains everything!" she exclaimed. Then she added that she has a nineteen year old sister and that anybody my age thinks they know everything.

I must have missed the part where somebody filled her in on my life story.

I was afraid of getting something like that when Russell first propsed. But after telling all our family and friends, everybody was happy and supportive of us, the fear left. When she reacted like that I was pissed but also shocked that somebody I had just met would actually say something like that.

I hate when older people say things like "oh, you're young and think you know everything." Age does not determine how intelligent you are. I do agree that you get wiser as you go through life experiences. But everybody goes through different things at different times in their life, just because you're older doesn't mean you know everything. And by making a statement like "Oh, you're young and think you know everything" you're implying that since you are older you do know everything. And you don't. You also know nothing about me. Let me make my own decisions. I may be young but I know what's right for me.
